Applications are invited for a number of Scholarships being offered by the Adam Smith Business School for PhD study in Accounting & Finance, Business and Management or Economics:
Eligibility
Home/EU and international applicants are eligible to apply as well as existing University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School PhD students who started in year one within 12 months of the scholarship deadline. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible.
The Award
The scholarship will run for a maximum of three years full-time (2 years if awarded to 1st year Glasgow PhD student) or 5 years part-time commencing In September/October 2014 and will provide:
Applicants are required to make two applications: one for a place of study for a PhD in the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow; the second application is for the studentship.
Both applications must be complete by 17:00, Thursday 10th April 2014.
Business School applicants who have already applied for the College of Social Sciences PhD scholarship 2014 competition will automatically be considered for the Adam Smith Business School PhD studentship.
Studentship application:
Applicants not currently studying for a PhD at the University of Glasgow must identify a potential supervisor prior to submitting a scholarship application, in order to secure a reference. Our web pages give information about our staff and their research interests and also about the research groups in Accounting & Finance, Economics and Management
All applicants should complete and collate the following documentation then attach to a single email and send to Christine Athorne at business-phd-studentship@glasgow.ac.uk by 17:00 on Thursday 10th April 2014:

Academic Transcript(s)
Full academic transcript(s) from previous studies (undergraduate and postgraduate).

References given to candidates in sealed envelopes should be opened, scanned and attached to the email. References can also be emailed direct to business-phd-studentship@glasgow.ac.uk by referees via their official University email address. (These references should arrive by the 17:00, 10 April 2014 deadline)
Applicants currently studying for a PhD at the University of Glasgow should include one reference from their first supervisor. Applicants applying from outside the University of Glasgow must include one reference from a potential supervisor at the University of Glasgow.
Research Proposal
Research proposal form should be completed and attached to the application email.
Additional items such as references and bibliography should be attached to the application email separately from the research proposal – i.e. on a different word document.
Proposals should be no longer than 1200 words, excluding references etc. Any proposal over 1200 words will not be considered.
Proposals must be checked by a supervisor or potential supervisor.
Other Important Information
All documents should be named as follows:

PhD application:
The application for a place of study for a PhD should be completed well before the 10th April. Applying earlier for a PhD will allow more time for potential supervisory arrangements to be explored. Instructions on how to apply for a PhD, together with a link to the online application system, are provided here. All applicants not already studying on a PhD in the Adam Smith Business School must forward to business-phd-studentship@glasgow.ac.uk their system generated application acknowledgment which will show their Student ID and their application number. This must be done by 17:00 on Thursday 10th April 2014.
The same documents can be used in support of both the scholarship and admission applications but should be submitted separately i.e. scholarship application documents emailed to Christine Athorne (at business-phd-studentship@glasgow.ac.uk ) and admission application documents uploaded via the online application system.
Any application which fails to meet the above requirements will not be considered.
All scholarship awards are subject to candidates successfully securing admission to a research programme within the Adam Smith Business School.
Applicants will be notified of the result of the competition by 27 June 2014.

The Award

- an annual bursary equivalent to the RCUK rate – £13,863 (£6931.50 part-time) for 2014/15
- fees at the standard Home/EU or International rate
- a research support grant of £750 (£375 part-time) per annum
